Dust collectors are the most under-respected dangerous equipment in most plants. Grain dust, wood dust, metal powder, and combustible chemical dusts all share a common hazard: they can deflagrate. Incidents happen, and they are usually caused by a well-meaning repair that missed a detail. Treat every dust collector as a potential explosion before you touch it.
A dust collector that is working normally holds a stable delta-P across the filter media. When that number climbs, the filters are binding or the pulse-jet cleaning is not firing. Before you replace filters, check pulse valve operation, compressed air pressure, and the pulse controller timing. Filters that have been blinded by poor pulse cleaning often recover with a proper cleaning cycle.
The rotary airlock under the hopper is supposed to seal against false air.
