PM Program Maturity Assessment
Before building anything, you need to know where you stand. Answer these 8 questions honestly to determine your current maturity level and where to focus your energy.
What percentage of your maintenance work is reactive (unplanned)?
Do you have written PM procedures for your critical equipment?
Is equipment criticality formally ranked?
Do you have a PM schedule that is followed consistently?
Are PM tasks based on failure mode analysis or just vendor recommendations?
Do you track PM compliance as a KPI?
Are spare parts pre-staged (kitted) for recurring PM tasks?
Do you have a formal process to review and optimize PM frequencies?
Start at Section 2. Build criticality ranking first.
You have basics. Move to Section 3 for the PM task library.
Solid foundation. Focus on Sections 5-6 for optimization.
Strong program. Use Section 7 for KPI refinement.
Equipment Criticality Ranking System
Not all equipment deserves the same level of PM attention. This scoring system helps you allocate your limited maintenance resources where they matter most.
Scoring Formula
Criticality Score = Production Impact (1-5) x Failure Frequency (1-5) x Detection Difficulty (1-5)
PM Task Library
This is the most hands-on section: ready-to-use PM tasks for 6 common equipment types. Each task includes what to do, how often, estimated time, skill level required, and parts needed. Use these as your starting point and adjust based on your specific equipment and operating conditions.
Motors: 15 PM Tasks
| Task | Frequency | Time | Skill | Parts/Tools |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Visual inspection (leaks, damage, loose connections) | Daily | 5 min | Basic | Flashlight |
| Check bearing temperature (IR gun) | Weekly | 10 min | Basic | IR thermometer |
| Listen for unusual noise/vibration | Weekly | 5 min | Intermediate | Stethoscope (optional) |
| Check terminal connections torque | Monthly | 15 min | Intermediate | Torque wrench, insulated tools |
| Measure insulation resistance (megger test) | Quarterly | 20 min | Advanced | Megger tester |
